Porcelain Veneers in Janesville

Shining smiles are our specialty

Dental veneers offer a fast, simple way of restoring your smile. Whether you have stained, chipped or worn teeth, this common cosmetic dentistry procedure is one of the best ways to cover up imperfections and get the smile of your dreams. If you’re looking for veneers in Janesville, consider the team at Dreier Family Dental to get the job done right.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, porcelain shells designed to fit over your existing teeth. They’re permanently bonded in place to give you a beautiful, natural-looking smile that will last for decades. The fit is seamless to ensure comfortable wear throughout the years, making this treatment one of the best choices for patients looking to get a comprehensive smile makeover.

How Are Dental Veneers Placed?

The process of placing dental veneers is simple and non-invasive, and it usually takes only two appointments at Dreier Family Dental, though this may vary based on the patient.

At your first appointment, one of our doctors will prepare your teeth for veneers by removing a small amount of tooth enamel. The amount of enamel removed is equal to the thickness of the veneers to ensure a tight, seamless fit.

Then, images and molds of your teeth are taken. These will be used to create the veneers, and make sure that the color, fit and style of the veneers are perfect. This information is sent to an outside laboratory, which manufactures the veneers and sends them back to us within 2-3 weeks. You’ll be sent home with a set of temporary veneers until your next appointment.

During your second visit, Dr. Dreier, Dr. Connie Winter, or Dr. Jim Winter will check the veneers to make sure the fit is perfect. They are then bonded into place permanently with dental adhesive and the procedure is complete.

Are Veneers Right for Me?

Veneers may be right for you if you have:

  • Misshapen or small teeth
  • Gaps in your teeth
  • Misaligned or slightly crooked teeth
  • Teeth that have been worn down due to bruxism (teeth grinding) or acid reflux
  • Stained teeth that cannot be treated with teeth whitening products
  • Chipped teeth

However, veneers cannot treat teeth that are cracked or otherwise damaged. They are primarily a cosmetic treatment, so they are not a good choice if your existing teeth are not healthy.

Candidates For Veneers

Veneers are strictly a cosmetic treatment and they are not meant to treat issues like severely cracked or damaged teeth. If your teeth are damaged, dental crowns may be a better option for you to restore function and aesthetically improve your smile.

A patient must be in good overall oral health in order to receive veneers. Your enamel must be strong, and you must be free of gum disease and tooth decay before having veneers placed. If you clench or grind your teeth, this issue may need to be addressed with a night guard before one of our dentists approves you for treatment with veneers. If not, grinding and clenching could end up damaging and cracking your veneers.

What Are the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers have some key benefits that make them a very popular cosmetic dentistry procedure.

  • Fast results – You can get a total smile makeover in just a few weeks without oral surgery.
  • No recovery time – After your veneers are bonded into place, you can get back to your day-to-day activities. There is no extended recovery period.
  • Totally natural look and feel – Veneers are made to look like real teeth. Whether you’re getting just one or an entire set, they’ll match your surrounding teeth and feel natural when you eat, drink, and speak.
  • Minimal maintenance – As long as you brush and floss regularly (and don’t forget your 6-month teeth cleaning and oral exam from Dreier Family Dental), your veneers will last for decades.

How Should I Care For My Veneers?

Caring for veneers is simple, and for the most part, you can treat them just like you would treat your natural teeth. Make sure that you’re brushing and flossing properly. Brush 2-3 times per day and floss once per day. Eat a diet low in sugar and simple carbohydrates, and avoid drinking sugary drinks like soda and juice.

In addition, try to brush your teeth after you drink beverages like coffee, tea, and wine, to prevent staining. Due to the non-porous nature of porcelain ceramic materials, your veneers won’t stain, but your surrounding teeth could. In turn, this may harm the overall appearance of your smile.

Finally, avoid chewing extremely hard foods, such as nuts and ice, with your front teeth. Do not chew on non-food objects like fingernails or pens, and avoid using your teeth as “tools” to open bags or packages since this could potentially damage your veneers.

Are Veneers A Good Alternative To Teeth Whitening?

If you have severe tooth stains or internal tooth stains, teeth whitening may not be enough to fully remove these discolorations. If this is the case, veneers can be used to cover up harsh stains and restore your smile.

Veneers vs. Orthodontic Treatment

If you only have minor orthodontic issues like small gaps or slightly-crooked teeth, veneers may be a good alternative to orthodontic treatments like braces and ClearCorrect.

However, if your teeth are more severely crooked and have large gaps, or you have bite problems like an overbite or underbite, veneers will not be the right treatment for you. To find out whether you are a good candidate for veneers, schedule an appointment with Dr. Dreier, Dr. Connie, or Dr. Jim at Dreier Family Dental. Our dentists will offer honest advice and walk you through every treatment option.
